The following are career highlights during John Lee Hooker's years as a Rosebud Agency management client. (Mr. Hooker was a Rosebud Agency booking client from 1976 until his passing. Our management relationship with Mr. Hooker ran from 1989 until 2001.)


The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Tribute Concert - John Lee Hooker & Friends -

John Lee Hooker was honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with a concert in his honor entitled "A 50th Anniversary Boogie". The sold out concert took place on October 30 at Stanford University. Those celebrating with John Lee included Charlie Musselwhite, John Hammond, Elvin Bishop, Eddie Kirkland, Johnnie Johnson, Pete Sears and John's daughter Zakiya Hooker. The Rock Hall's concert series began in 1996 and since has featured such artists as Aretha Franklin, The Band, Ray Manzarek of the Doors and Little Richard, to name a few.

Blues Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award

John Lee Hooker was honored November 7, 1996 with The Blues Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award. Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, B.B. King, Robert Cray, Luther Allison, Charlie Musselwhite, Ruth Brown and Little Milton were amongst those who paid tribute to the blues legend at B.B. King's club in Los Angeles, CA. President Clinton also sent a letter of congratulations to Mr. Hooker which was read to the audience.

Free Tibet Concert

John Lee participated in the benefit concert to raise awareness about the plight of Chinese-ruled Tibet on June 15, 1996 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The Smashing Pumpkins, the Beastie Boys, the Fugees, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Yoko Ono, A Tribe Called Quest, Buddy Guy, Sonic Youth and Björk also performed at the two day concert.

San Francisco Blues Festival tribute to John Lee Hooker

John Lee was honored at the 23rd Annual San Francisco Blues Festival. Ry Cooder, Luther Allison, Roy Rogers and Charlie Musselwhite joined Hooker onstage after the reading of a congratulatory letter from President Clinton for John Lee's lifetime achievement in music and a rousing intro from then San Francisco Mayoral candidate Willie Brown. Madison Square Garden tribute to John Lee Hooker

John Lee was recognized in a special tribute show. He performed along with Ry Cooder and his band, was joined by Bonnie Raitt in one segment and closed two other sets with separate all-star bands organized for the event. Other performers backing John included: Joe Cocker, Huey Lewis, Mick Fleetwood, Gregg Allman, Al Kooper, Johnny Winter, Albert Collins, Willie Dixon, John Hammond, Charlie Musselwhite, Ronnie Earl, George Porter of the original Meters, Roy Rogers, Angela Strehli, and members of Little Feat. The show also featured a speech in tribute to John by Ed Bradley of 60 Minutes. (10/90)

Bridge School Benefit

John Lee was recognized in a special tribute show. He performed along with Appeared at the 5th Annual Bridge School Benefit, November 1991 in Mountain View, CA on a bill with Don Henley, Neil Young, Tracy Chapman and Sonic Youth.

Nelson Mandela Rally

John was joined onstage at the Oakland, CA rally by Bonnie Raitt for a live rendition of "I'm In The Mood" before a crowd of 60,000. (6/90)

The Rolling Stones

invited John Lee Hooker to appear at their three Atlantic City, NJ concerts. He performed "Boogie Chillen" backed by Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman, Ron Wood and Eric Clapton for the December 19 national Pay-Per-View broadcast. (12/89)
