As the title indicates, The Very Best Of ¡Cubanismo! - ¡Mucho Gusto! - released on 11/6/2001 - collects the brightest of the many high points from ¡Cubanismo!'s four Hannibal Records releases - Jesús Alemañy's ¡Cubanismo! (1996), Malembe (1997), Reencarnación (1998), and Mardi Gras Mambo (2000) - and adds two previously unreleased covers - the Bob Marley / Peter Tosh classic "Get Up, Stand Up" (a live favorite, with legendary Jamaican guitarist Ernest Ranglin guesting), and Marley's "Could You Be Loved" (with reggae singer Luciano contributing lead vocals).

Amazon named their picks for best CDs of 2001 and John Hammond's Wicked Grin was named #1 Blues CD. Loudon Wainwright III's Last Man On Earth was named #2 Folk CD behind only Bob Dylan and directly ahead of John Hammond's Wicked Grin. As mentioned in a previous news item Loudon scored #13, John Hammond #14, and The Blind Boys of Alabama's Spirit of The Century #73 on Amazon's overall list of the best CDs of the year.

Amazon.com just released their top 100 CDs of 2001 and Loudon Wainwright III's Last Man on Earth was named #13, followed by John Hammond's Wicked Grin at #14, and The Blind Boys of Alabama's Spirit of the Century at #73. All three artists continue to tour heavily behind the new releases.
Rosebud signs Soul Legend Howard Tate
The Rosebud Agency is proud to announce the signing of legendary R&B / Soul singer Howard Tate, who is back on the scene after a 30-plus year hiatus. Tate's classic soul hits "Ain't Nobody Home," "Stop," and "Get It While You Can" have been covered by B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin. His recent comeback shows have received rave reviews including The New York Times' proclamation that he sounds "just as powerful and just as blue..." as he did 30 years ago. Tate has teamed up again with his old producer Jerry Ragovoy and is planning to release a new CD in spring 2002.
