Mavis Staples' "Eyes on the Prize" Featured In Soundtrack For Wong Kar Wai's My Blueberry Nights

On February 5, Blue Note Records will release My Blueberry Nights, music from the new film by director Wong Kar Wai (2046, Happy Together, In The Mood For Love). Mavis Staples’ driving rendition of “Eyes On The Prize”, produced by Ry Cooder, is featured on the soundtrack, along with songs from Norah Jones, Cat Power, Otis Redding and Ruth Brown. My Blueberry Nights is the first-ever English film by the acclaimed Hong Kong director and stars Norah Jones in her acting debut for this romantic drama set as an American road movie. In addition to Jones, the cast features Jude Law, Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman and David Strathairn. My Blueberry Nights is set for nationwide release on February 13, 2008. Allen Toussaint's "Yes We Can Can" Featured in Young At Heart Documentary

Allen Toussaint's "Yes We Can Can" will be featured in the documentary Young at Heart by filmmaker Stephen Walker. Young At Heart is based on an elderly singing group performing rock tunes. "Yes We Can Can" performed by the chorus is a group favorite says singer Steve Martin, "That song typifies who we are, that even at our average age at 78, we can exude that kind of energy." Blind Boys Featured Guests On Late Night and The Tonight Show

The Blind Boys of Alabama will be featured on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on Friday, February 1 and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday, March 11. The 4 time Grammy winning gospel legends have just released their new CD, Down In New Orleans, and rave reviews are pouring in. Rolling Stone calls the new CD "A superweapon of roots-music uplift..." and The Washington Post describes it as "Inspired and relevant... borders on the miraculous." Tommy Castro and Duke Robillard Featured on House of Blues Radio's Top 10 CDs of 2007

Duke Robillard’s World Full of Blues (Stony Plain Records) and Tommy Castro’s Painkiller (Blind Pig) were voted among the Top 10 CDs of 2007 by House of Blues Radio Hour listeners. The January 7th and 8th House of Blues Radio hour featured Robilard’s "World Of Blues" and Castro’s "I Roll When I Rock." Tommy Castro’s "Soul Shaker" was also featured on the International Blues Challenge segment on January 19th and 20th in honor of his past win. Bettye LaVette, Mavis Staples And More Rosebud Artists Recognized In Village Voice Pazz & Jop Poll

Rosebud artists Bettye LaVette and Mavis Staples scored spots in the top 35 of Village Voice's annual "Pazz & Jop Poll" for LaVette’s Scene Of The Crime and Staples’ We'll Never Turn Back. The annual poll combines ballots from 577 critics’ Top 10 lists to acknowledge the best albums of 2007. Additional Rosebud artists whose CDs were honored were Bill Frisell (for his work with Floratone and with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano) Loudon Wainwright III, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ruthie Foster, Pieta Brown, Ann Savoy and the late Muddy Waters. Compilations that featured Rosebud artists were Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur (Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars), Goin Home: A Tribute To Fats Domino (Allen Toussaint, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Trombone Shorty and Marcia Ball) and Song Of America (The Blind Boys of Alabama and Bettye LaVette).

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and BeauSoleil Honored at Offbeat Awards

Rosebud artists Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet were honored at Offbeat Magazine's 2007 Best of the Beat Awards in New Orleans on January 12th. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue took home the award for Best R&B/Funk Band or Performer. Trombone Shorty took home his second consecutive award for Band or Performer of the Year. BeauSoleil was once again awarded Best Cajun Band or Performer making this their record 12th win. Offbeat Magazine Awards celebrates Louisiana music and is determined by readers in an online poll.

Holiday Concert Gift to New Orleans Matched With Honors For Trombone Shorty

Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, along with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Shades of Praise Choir, headlined a free three-hour Christmas concert at the First Baptist Church of New Orleans for an over-capacity crowd of 1500+ people. Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu praised Trombone Shorty for his dedication to the community, and honored him with an award from the State of Louisiana. Senator Diana Bajoie of Louisiana awarded him with a state proclamation for his musical contributions, and Mayor Ray Nagin also attended the multi-cultural event, and presented Trombone Shorty with a proclamation from the City of New Orleans. City Council members were also in attendance, along with State Representative Juan LeFonte, who also awarded Trombone Shorty with a declaration from the State of Louisiana House. Politicians joined New Orleans families and churchgoers to hear this unique musical Christmas event organized by the New Orleans Music Hall of Fame featuring New Orleans's newest star, Trombone Shorty. And later in the week at the House of Blues in New Orleans, Lenny Kravitz sat in on drums with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. The show was a benefit for the Daniel Price Memorial Fund which also included Rebirth Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins, and Rockin' Dopsie.
