Rosebud has been fortunate in that generally our artists score between 4 and 6 Grammy nominations every year but 10 is definitely a new record and we are Thrilled, especially considering the fact that Rosebud artists only released 14 eligible CDs this past year. Loudon Wainwright III Featured In Disney's G-Force 3D

Loudon Wainwright III is the voice of Grandpa Goodman in the new Disney film, G-Force 3D, in theatres July 24, 2009. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the animated movie revolves around a specially trained squad of guinea pigs dispatched to stop a diabolical billionaire from taking over the world. It also stars the voices of Nicholas Cage, Penelope Cruz, Tracy Morgan, Jon Favreau, Steve Buscemi and Zach Galifianakis. The project adds to Loudon's past film credits including roles in Judd Apatow's Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin; Martin Scorsese's The Aviator; Cameron Crowe's Elizabethtown; Tim Burton's Big Fish; Jacknife alongside Robert De Niro and Ed Harris; Neil Simon's The Slugger's Wife and a recurring role on M*A*S*H. Loudon Wainwright III's High Wide & Handsome - The Charlie Poole Project will be released on August 18, 2009. Produced by Dick Connette, the double CD revisits the life, times, and recorded legacy of legendary singer and banjo picker, Charlie Poole (1892-1931). Poole was a bootlegger, banjo picker, amateur baseball player, drinker, rambler, gambler, and textile mill worker - and one of the most popular musicians of his day, recording over 110 tracks. Connette and Loudon wrote new songs inspired by the life and times of the country music pioneer in addition to recording new renditions of classic songs previously recorded by Poole. Guests on the album include Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Maggie, Terre and Suzzy Roche, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Sloan Wainwright, David Mansfield, Chaim Tannenbaum, Erik Friedlander, Chris Thile and many more. Loudon Wainwright III Guests On Late Show with David Letterman December 10th

Loudon Wainwright III will be the featured performer on the Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday, December 10th. Loudon is currently touring extensively in support of his acclaimed new Joe Henry produced CD, Recovery. The CD finds him giving full band treatment to previously sparse acoustic recordings from early in his career. The first class band on the CD includes Greg Leisz, Patrick Warren, David Piltch and Jay Bellerose. In addition, Bill Frisell makes a guest appearance on two songs.

Loudon Wainwright III will be featured on Late Night With Conan O'Brien on Wednesday, September 17, 2008. While Loudon has appeared on the show a number of times in the past, this appearance precedes international touring in support of his new CD, Recovery. On Recovery, Loudon revisits his own classic early material, giving full band treatment (including the CD's producer Joe Henry on one track and Bill Frisell on two others) to previously solo acoustic songs. The result has met with universal acclaim as did his recent LA showcase of the project featuring guests Joe Henry and son Levon, as well as Loudon's daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche, Van Dyke Parks, and most of the band from the CD.

Rosebud artists Bettye LaVette and Mavis Staples scored spots in the top 35 of Village Voice's annual "Pazz & Jop Poll" for LaVette’s Scene Of The Crime and Staples’ We'll Never Turn Back. The annual poll combines ballots from 577 critics’ Top 10 lists to acknowledge the best albums of 2007. Additional Rosebud artists whose CDs were honored were Bill Frisell (for his work with Floratone and with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano) Loudon Wainwright III, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ruthie Foster, Pieta Brown, Ann Savoy and the late Muddy Waters. Loudon Wainwright III Caps Off A Memorable Year With Performance at WFUV's Holiday Benefit

Tomorrow (December 13), Loudon Wainwright III will perform at WFUV 90.7’s "Holiday Cheer for Fuv" fundraising benefit, along with Madeleine Peyroux and Suzanne Vega in New York City. This appearance closes out a very successful year for Loudon, which includes Amazon.com declaring Loudon’s Strange Weirdos: Music from and Inspired by the film Knocked Up the fifth Best Soundtrack of the year and Rolling Stone naming Knocked Up as the #4 DVD of 2007. Wainwright also had standout performances on NPR's "World Café" program on November 13th and at his November 9th concert in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre. Joe Henry shared the bill with Loudon for the night filled with very special guests, including Seth Rogan (star of Knocked Up) as emcee with Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap, Best In Show) and Judd Apatow (director of Knocked Up, 40-Year-Old Virgin) coming out to share the evening. Wainwright appeared in both Knocked Up and 40-Year-Old Virgin and provided the music for the Knocked Up soundtrack.

Loudon Wainwright III will return to Late Night with Conan O’Brien Tuesday, May 22, the same day his new album hits stores. The show will also feature actress/author/comedian Amy Sedaris. Wainwright will perform material from his new Concord CD, Strange Weirdos: Music From and Inspired by the Film Knocked Up. The album is a companion piece to the highly anticipated new film from Judd Apatow, director of The 40-Year-Old Virgin and a longtime Wainwright fan. Apatow was the creative force behind Undeclared, the weekly series in which Wainwright had a recurring role. Wainwright also appeared in Apatow’s 40 Year Old Virgin.

Loudon Wainwright III will release his new CD, Strange Weirdos: Music From and Inspired by the Film Knocked Up, May 22. Director Judd Apatow, a longtime fan, asked the singer/songwriter to provide musical accompaniment for Knocked Up after the two worked together on Apatow’s previous film, The 40-Year-Old Virgin as well as on the popular sitcom, Undeclared, in which Loudon had a recurring role. The disc was produced by Joe Henry, who described the result as the "best Loudon Wainwright album in 15 years." The album features a dozen originals penned by Wainwright and Henry as well as covers of songs by Mose Allison and Peter Blegvad. Guest musicians include fellow Rosebud artist Richard Thompson and Brian Wilson collaborator Van Dyke Parks. Apatow cited Wainwright as an influence on his own work, saying, "He’s encouraged me to go as far as I can in telling the truth in my writing and I hope to expose his work to an uninitiated audience." Already garnering pre-release raves, Knocked Up stars Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl and will hit theatres in June.


Loudon Wainwright III and Bill Frisell Featured on All Star "Rogue's Gallery"

Loudon Wainwright III and Bill Frisell are both featured on Anti Record's two-CD release, "Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys." The project, inspired by actor Johnny Depp and film director Gore Verbinski and produced by Hal Willner, is a collection of songs from this lost genre. Loudon contributes his version of the songs "Turkish Revelry" and "Good Ship Venus" while Bill Frisell reinterprets "Spanish Ladies" for the collection. Other artist featured on the album include Bono, Sting, Nick Cave, Lou Reed, Lucinda Williams and actor John C. Reilly.

Loudon Wainwright Triple-Encore on XM Radio's Loft

Loudon Wainwright will be featured on XM Radio's, The Loft, with the re-broadcast of three of his in-studio Loft Sessions. The three shows, will re-air in succession on XM's popular Loft channel the week of February 20, 2006 on Monday at 12 noon & 9 pm, Thursday at 3 pm & 9 pm, and on Saturday at 6 pm, all times Eastern. Loudon Wainwright III is the focus of two separate specials on BBC Television (BBC Four) on Friday September 23. The first one hour special, 'Loudon Wainwright - One Man Guy', is taken from a concert which was specially recorded for the BBC in London on May 2nd this year. Directly following 'One Man Guy' is 'Loudon Wainwright III at the BBC' a 60 minute collection of his appearances on BBC TV over the past 30 years. In the meantime, Loudon is featured in the finale of the hit film, 40 Year Old Virgin. Watch for Loudon on the big screen again in October in Cameron Crowe's Elizabethtown with Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst and Susan Sarandon.

Loudon Wainwright III appears in "The Aviator" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese. The film will be released to select theatres December 17 and nationwide on Christmas. Loudon appears in the film as an entertainer at the Coconut Grove as do his children, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, each in different decades. Loudon recently appeared in "Big Fish" directed by Tim Burton and has also just finished filming a role for an upcoming film by Cameron Crowe. Loudon Wainwright III on WFUV and ABC Nightline, New York Family Reunion

Loudon Wainwright III will guest on Vin Scelsa's Idiot's Delight show on WFUV in New York on Saturday September 20. Loudon, a regular visitor to the show over the years, is currently touring to promote his new live CD, "So Damn Happy". One of the songs on the new CD, "Something For Nothing" has attracted a great deal of attention recently as it focuses on the issue of downloading and sharing music files. Loudon will be featured discussing the issue and performing the song live on ABC Nightline (exact air date TBA). The interview and performance were taped at The Bottom Line in New York on September 17 where Loudon was joined on stage by Martha and Rufus Wainwright, Suzzy and Lucy Roche, David Mansfield and Teddy Thompson for an incredible night of music.

Loudon Wainwright III shows scheduled for September 3 & 4 at Largo in Los Angeles have been postponed. Loudon had a late call to participate in the upcoming Martin Scorsese film, The Aviator, this week in Montreal and needed to re-schedule the shows. One of the shows has been re-scheduled for Saturday September 6 with doors at 8:30 pm - show at 9:15, Loudon is scheduled to start at 9:50. Loudon Wainwright III will perform alongside singer/songwriter legend Van Dyke Parks and jazz guitarist icon Bill Frisell on two exclusive dates in Germany on July 11 and July 13 . The concerts take place at the German Ruhr Triennale arts festival in a historic industrial hall near Duisburg as features of the series “Century of Song”. Loudon will perform his own material in new arrangements as well as some of his favorite songs by other songwriters. Bill Frisell’s band includes famous steel guitarist Greg Leisz. Loudon Wainwright III has an acting role in the new Tim Burton movie, "Big Fish". The film is currently in production and stars Ewan McGregor, Jessica Lange, Danny DeVito and Steve Buscemi, among others. Filming will continue into the summer with no word yet on a release date. Loudon has also been seen on the small screen recently with a recent guest appearance on Fox TV's "Grounded For Life" and has also been cast playing a TV Dad in a new pilot called "Dicks" for the WB network. Loudon Wainwright will make an appearance on an upcoming episode of Fox TV’s Grounded For Life. Loudon’s acting credits continue to grow as he adds Grounded for Life to last year’s Ally Mc Beal appearance (where, in addition to his acting role he sang 3 songs) and his regular appearances on Fox's Undeclared. Loudon previously appeared in Sandra Bullock’s film 28 Days as well as acting credits dating back to 3 appearances on MASH. Loudon Wainwright III has coverage coming up on a variety of network shows. Loudon's featured role in the Fox / Dreamworks sitcom, Undeclared, continues with 4 more episodes featuring Loudon yet to be aired - and they're now filming another series of shows. In the meantime, Loudon is featured, along with Leonard Cohen, on a piece on CBS News Sunday Morning airing in January. He also appears on Broadway's Best, along with Jill Scott, Shawn Colvin and others airing on Bravo in February. He'll also appear in January on PBS' Life 360 performing his songs, "No Sure Way" and "White Winos". "White Winos" was just nominated in the BBC Folk Awards for Best Orginal Song. Loudon Wainwright III joined son Rufus and Elton John onstage at the Universal Amphitheatre December 12 as part of a benefit for the Elton John AIDs Foundation. The three performed Loudon's song, "One Man Guy" which Rufus also recorded on his new release, Poses. Other performers on the show included Sting, Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys, LeAnn Rimes, Matchbox Twenty and others.

Amazon named their picks for best CDs of 2001 and John Hammond's Wicked Grin was named #1 Blues CD. Loudon Wainwright III's Last Man On Earth was named #2 Folk CD behind only Bob Dylan and directly ahead of John Hammond's Wicked Grin. As mentioned in a previous news item Loudon scored #13, John Hammond #14, and The Blind Boys of Alabama's Spirit of The Century #73 on Amazon's overall list of the best CDs of the year.

Loudon Wainwright III's BBC Sessions, originally released on Strange Fruit Records in the UK in 1998 has just been made available in the US Fuel 2000 Records. The CD is a compilation of 21 of Loudon's best performances on BBC radio culled over 25 + years of visits to their studios. Loudon is, of course, on screen acting and singing in the new Sandra Bullock hit film, 28 Days. Loudon's four songs featured in that film will be available on the 28 Days soundtrack, due out May 16.
