On April 22nd, Smithsonian Folkways released From Now On, the latest solo CD by Michael Doucet, Grammy winning leader and founding member of BeauSoleil. Featuring Doucet on fiddle, octave violin, guitar and accordion, From Now On is an engaging musical portrait of Southern Louisiana performed by one of Cajun music's most esteemed figures. A variety of styles are represented on the set, from a Creole interpretation of Allen Toussaint's "Everthing I Do Gonna Be Funky", to the traditional songs of legends Denis McGee and Canray Fontenot, songs Doucet learned from the masters themselves. Doucet's contributions to the preservation of Cajun heritage have earned him the distinction of both The National Heritage Fellowship, awarded by The National Endowment for the Arts in 2005, as well as the honor of being named one of the first recipients of the United States Artists Fellowship Grant in 2007. The albums 18 tracks consist of live recordings taken from documentary film footage shot in New Orleans in April 2005 for a film about Arhoolie Records. Michael and David Doucet appear together on 9 of the 18 tracks on the album, including spontaneous performances as a duo and with clarinetist Sammy Rimington, singer/bass drummer Lionel Batiste Sr. and guitarist Lars Edgran. Michael Doucet also accompanies Sammy Rimington and Sunpie Barnes on several additional tracks. Hosted by Garrison Keillor, the program is heard by more than 4 million listeners on some 580 public radio stations on America One and the Armed Forces Networks in Europe and the Far East. Marcia performed songs from her much anticipated new album Peace, Love & BBQ, in stores on April 8. BeauSoleil has a long relationship with the show and are among the most frequently featured guests.

Rosebud artists Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet were honored at Offbeat Magazine's 2007 Best of the Beat Awards in New Orleans on January 12th. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue took home the award for Best R&B/Funk Band or Performer. Trombone Shorty took home his second consecutive award for Band or Performer of the Year. BeauSoleil was once again awarded Best Cajun Band or Performer making this their record 12th win. Offbeat Magazine Awards celebrates Louisiana music and is determined by readers in an online poll.

Michael Doucet of BeauSoleil was recently awarded a 2007 grant from United States Artists, a foundation dedicated to nurture, support and strengthen America's finest living artists. National leaders in business, the academic world and the arts founded United States Artists in 2005. Recipients are drawn from the world of music, literature, film, dance and the visual arts and include such distinguished artists as Don Byron, Bill T Jones, Meredith Monk, Jason Moran and Rosebud artist Bill Frisell (2006). In addition to this honor, Mr. Doucet is also the recipient of a 2005 National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts.

Rosebud artists were honored once again at offBeat Magazine's Best Of The Beat Awards in New Orleans on January 25, 2007. Recorded during a pair of anniversary shows on January 11 and 12 in Louisiana, the album features songs from across the Cajun and Creole cultural spectrum and is dedicated to the people of Louisiana. Two tracks in particular, "L'Ouragon (The Hurricane)" and "Conja (New Orleans 1786)" pay homage to New Orleans. BeauSoleil founder, Michael Doucet, is one of twelve artists who have been awarded the prestigious National Heritage Fellowship by The National Endowment for the Arts. The award is the country's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. Awardees are chosen for their artistic excellence, cultural authenticity and contributions to their field. Doucet and other recipients will attend a series of events in September, including the awards presentation on Capitol Hill and a concert on September 23rd at George Washington University. Doucet joins prior Heritage fellows such as B.B. King, Doc Watson and Bill Monroe, as well as current and former Rosebud artists respectively, The Blind Boys of Alabama and the late John Lee Hooker.

For the 10th time in the 18 year history of Gambit Weekly's Big Easy Entertainment Awards, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet won the Best Cajun Band Category. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band also took home honors, winning Best Brass Band once again. The Big Easy Awards honor the best of what New Orleans has to offer in Music and Theater. Winners and honorees were feted in New Orleans at The Municipal Auditorium on April 18, 2005.

Rosebud artists have once again scored big in the just announced Grammy nominations as they have been honored directly, or as participants in 8 nods spread over the Blues, Gospel, Folk and Alternative categories. The Blind Boys of Alabama follow their back-to-back-to-back Grammy wins with shared nominations for both Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album for their collaboration with Ben Harper on There Will Be a Light and for Best Gospel Performance for the title track from that album. Charlie Musselwhite scored his 7th Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album with Sanctuary. Beausoleils Gitane Cajun garnered their 10th Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Folk Album. Mavis Staples makes an appearance in all three genres. She received a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Performance for her collaboration with Dr. John on the song "Lay My Burden Down," (which also features The Dirty Dozen Brass Band) from Dr. Johns "Nawlinz Dis Dat Or Dudda," additionally nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Mavis is also the featured artist performing "Hard Times Come Again No More" from the album Beautiful Dreamer - The Songs of Stephen Foster which has been nominated for Best Traditional Folk Album. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet, and Ann Savoy of The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band along with several other Louisiana artists will be featured on "Dancing To New Orleans", a two hour television special premiering Sunday, May 11 on Bravo at 9pm ET. The show will take viewers on a musical journey through Louisiana, exploring its cultural landscape through performance and art. All three Rosebud artists (along with six others) recently played New Orleans during the 2003 Jazz & Heritage Festival to great response. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band also performed their own show on all 11 nights of the festival at Twiropa, in the New Orleans warehouse district, with special guests including members of Soulive, Los Lobos and Robert Walter's 20th Congress. Three of those shows were taped for an upcoming live CD.

BeauSoleil Avec Michael Doucet took the honors as Best Cajun Cajun Band - an honor that is bestowed upon them basically every year. If you want to see the Best Cajun Band there is - it's BeauSoleil. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band scored 2 wins including Best Brass Band. The city is known for it's brass bands but The Dozen is the best, and it was their innovative work that revitalized the genre. The Dozen also collected the award for Best Brass Album by a Louisiana Artist for their Medicated Magic CD which features Norah Jones, John Bell of Widespread Panic, Robert Randolph, Dr. John and DJ Logic. Also honored was Ann Savoy of The Savoy Doucet Cajun Band for producing the Best Cajun Album by a Louisiana Artist. Ann and Savoy Doucet perform on the CD along with contributions from Linda Ronstadt, John Fogerty, Richard Thompson, and Nick Lowe. The awards were given out at the annual Offbeat Best Of The Beat Awards in New Orleans on February 7.

BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet were nominated for Cajun Band of the year in 2002 Big Easy Entertainment Awards hosted by Gambit Weekly. The CD, which marks the band's 25th anniversary, was recorded live at Wolf Trap. Among the accolades was the final line "This CD is an hour in the Southern part of heaven." The band will tour throughout the year promoting the CD and the band's anniversary with special guests on many of the dates.

Grammy Award Winners, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet, will release Looking Back Tomorrow: BeauSoleil Live! on January 16. The CD celebrates the band's 25th anniversary of bringing Cajun music to the world. Recorded live at The Barns At Wolf Trap, the CD also celebrates a return to the first venue outside Louisiana to present the band when, in 1976, they performed at the National Folk Festival.

Five Rosebud Artists Garnered Grammy Nominations for the 2000 Grammy Awards to be held February 23 in Los Angeles.
Charlie Musselwhite and Ruth Brown each scored their second nominations in the Contemporary and Traditional Blues Categories respectively. Charlie's nomination comes for his Continental Drifter on Pointblank / Virgin while Ruth Brown's honors are for her latest, A Good Day For The Blues, on Bullseye / Rounder.
Robert Cray notched his 11th Grammy nomination for his acclaimed Rykodisc debut, Take Your Shoes Off. This marks his eighth consecutive album to be nominated for a Grammy with four wins to date. Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet scored a nomination in the Contemporary Folk category for their latest on Rhino / Forward, Cajunization. This is BeauSoleil's 8th Grammy nomination - their, L'Amour Ou La Folie, won the Grammy for Traditional Folk in 1998.
Luther Allison, a Rosebud artist until his untimely passing, was nominated in the Contemporary Blues Category for his posthumous release, Live In Chicago, on Alligator Records.
In an earlier announcement, John Lee Hooker was chosen to be honored with the Grammys Lifetime Achievement Award.
BeauSoleil Scores Billboard Cover Story, New CD March 16

BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet was featured on the cover of Billboard's February 27 issue in a Jim Bessman story about their upcoming Rhino CD, Cajunization. Cajunization is in stores March 16 and, according to Bessman, features the band broadening their horizons with tastes of Cuban, blues, Hawaiian and even surf music while still never straying too far from their source. Jerry Douglas and Sonny Landreth guest on the CD.

Finally, on their eighth Grammy Nomination, BeauSoleil won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Record. On accepting the award, Michael Doucet noted that this represented the first Grammy ever won by a Cajun. Doucet joined Asleep At The Wheel, Jo-El Sonnier and Dr. John later for a performance at the official post-Grammy party.

BeauSoleil's L'Amour Ou La Folie was profiled in People as "Louisiana'a hottest export since Tabasco". In the meantime, the group came home winners again in New Orleans' Big Easy Awards for Best Cajun Group. This was BeauSoleil's eighth win in ten years - why only eight? -rules prevent any artist from winning the same award five years in a row!
Beausoleil Super Bowl Appearance, New CD, Prairie Home Companion date

The six-time Grammy-nominated group releases L'Amour ou la Folie (loosely translated as "Love or Folly") on the Rhino label on January 14. Featuring guest artists (and old friends) Richard Thompson and New Orleans clarinetist Dr. Michael White, the album showcases the group's incomparable Cajun/Creole sound on both traditional and Beausoleil original songs.
BeauSoleil is also scheduled to perform along with Mary Chapin Carpenter for the halftime show for Super Bowl XXXI (Sunday, January 26), which will be hosted by New Orleans in the group's home state of Louisiana.
After the game, the gang heads north to the frozen tundra for a taping of Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion. The nationally-syndicated radio program features a Beausoleil performance for its February 1st airing.
