Allen Toussaint and Trombone Shorty will be featured participants in the nationally televised NBA All-Star game on TNT Sunday, February 17th. Trombone Shorty will perform during the player introductions along with Branford Marsalis, Kermit Ruffins and Rebirth Brass Band. Allen Toussaint will perform at half time as part of an all star lineup of keyboardists also featuring Harry Connick, Jr. and his band with Dr. John, Davell Crawford, Art Neville, Ivan Neville, Jonathan Batiste and Ellis Marsalis. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will perform throughout the television special on the preceding day which will include the 3-Point Challenge, Slam Dunk competition and skills challenge. The NBA All-Star Game begins at 8 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Pacific) at New Orleans Arena. Rosebud artists Bettye LaVette and Mavis Staples scored spots in the top 35 of Village Voice's annual "Pazz & Jop Poll" for LaVettes Scene Of The Crime and Staples We'll Never Turn Back. The annual poll combines ballots from 577 critics Top 10 lists to acknowledge the best albums of 2007. Additional Rosebud artists whose CDs were honored were Bill Frisell (for his work with Floratone and with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano) Loudon Wainwright III, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ruthie Foster, Pieta Brown, Ann Savoy and the late Muddy Waters. Compilations that featured Rosebud artists were Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur (Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars), Goin Home: A Tribute To Fats Domino (Allen Toussaint, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Trombone Shorty and Marcia Ball) and Song Of America (The Blind Boys of Alabama and Bettye LaVette). Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino features Rosebud artists Allen Toussaint, Marcia Ball, Trombone Shorty and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. On this double-disc tribute, Allen Toussaint joins Paul McCartney on "I Want to Walk You Home and Marcia Ball pairs up with Irma Thomas for their own rendition of "I Just Can't Get New Orleans Off My Mind". Marcia also sings backing vocals with Dr John on Dont Leave Me This Way. Trombone Shorty also does double duty teaming up with the Rebirth Brass Band and Lenny Kravitz on "Whole Lotta Loving" and also joining with Ivan Nevilles Dumpstaphunk and B B King on Goin Home while The Dirty Dozen Brass Band is featured on "Every Night About This Time," along with Joss Stone and Buddy Guy. The album, set for a September 25 release, includes Domino hits such as "Blueberry Hill," "Im Walkin," and "Aint That a Shame. Other artists on the album include Willie Nelson, Elton John, Robert Plant, and Neil Young. Proceeds are to be donated to New Orleans Public Schools and fund the reconstruction of Dominos home, which was severely damaged from Hurricane Katrina.
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band have just been confirmed to perform on Live with Regis and Kelly on Thursday, May 24th. The legendary brass band will join one of daytime television's most popular shows as Regis and Kelly visit New Orleans next week for 4 shows. Rosebud artists were honored once again at offBeat Magazine's Best Of The Beat Awards in New Orleans on January 25, 2007. BeauSoleil continued their dominance in the Best Cajun Band category and also picked up Best Cajun Album for their recent CD BeauSoleil: Live in Louisiana (Way Down in Louisiana). As in past years, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band ruled the Best Brass Band Album category, picking up an award for their latest CD on Shout Factory, What's Going On. The Best of the Beat Awards are chosen by New Orleans music fans and offBeat.com and offBeat Weekly readers from around the world.
The New Orleans Saints returned to the Superdome with a nationally televised grand celebration in which Rosebud artists Allen Toussaint and The Dirty Dozen's Gregory Davis were highly visible. Gregory lead a group of brass musicians to the foot of the stage, preceding a performance by U2 and Green Day. U2's Bono even name dropped Allen Toussaint in the lyric to "Beautiful Day". Later, the national anthem was performed by legendary New Orleans icons Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint.
New Orleans' own Dirty Dozen Brass Band and very special guests are paying tribute to Marvin Gayes Whats Going On, by releasing their reinterpretation of the classic CD on the records 35th anniversary. Adding even more weight to the project is the fact that the political and social issues of that era remain relevant today and are emphasized by the fact that the CD is being released on August 29, the anniversary of the Katrina disaster. The Dozen themselves were uprooted by the hurricane and the loss they shared with much of the Gulf Coast community is given voice here by the band and special guests G. Love, Ivan Neville, Bettye LaVette, Guru and Chuck D. Allen Toussaint and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band are among the all-star cast of the DVD "From The Big Apple to The Big Easy" which documents the benefit concert of the same name held in New York City in September 20, 2005. Allen Toussaint is featured performing solo on Southern Nights and with Cyndi Lauper on Last Train/I Know (You Dont Want Me No More). In addition he shares the stage with and provides accompaniment to Art Neville, Lenny Kravitz, Elvis Costello, Clarence Frogman Henry, Jimmy Buffett, Aaron Neville, Cyril Neville and Irma Thomas. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band are featured in performances with Elvis Costello and Dave Bartholomew, Diana Krall with Troy Andrews and Kermit Ruffins. Later, they join The Neville Brothers, The Meters and others in a show closing performance of When the Saints Go Marching In. Charlie Musselwhite also performed with Tom Waits at Radio City Music Hall the same evening in a simultaneous show benefiting the same cause. The live concerts raised nearly 9 million dollars for hurricane relief efforts and 100% of the proceeds from this DVD will go toward continuing those efforts. Two Rosebud artists joined all-star line-ups to help raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina in the New York benefit concerts dubbed "The Big Apple to The Big Easy." The Dirty Dozen Brass Band was featured in the fundraiser at Madison Square Garden performing with Elvis Costello, Diana Krall and Dave Bartholomew. They also joined Aaron Neville and a score of other New Orleans performers for the finale of "When the Saints Go Marching In." Charlie Musselwhite lent his support by performing with Tom Waits in a simultaneous benefit concert at Radio City Music Hall. Other performers on the two shows included Simon and Garfunkel, John Fogerty, Elton John, Dave Matthews, Joss Stone, Jimmy Buffet and Lenny Kravitz.
For the 10th time in the 18 year history of Gambit Weekly's Big Easy Entertainment Awards, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet won the Best Cajun Band Category. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band also took home honors, winning Best Brass Band once again. The Big Easy Awards honor the best of what New Orleans has to offer in Music and Theater. In the wake of guesting on Dave Matthews latest, "Some Devil," The Dozen will appear on the new live Widespread Panic CD, Night of Joy, out March 23 on Widespread/Sanctuary Records. The CD features nine cuts recorded by Widespread Panic and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band in November, 2003 at the relatively intimate confines of the Myrtle Beach, SC House of Blues. Tracks include Panic favorites such as "Rebirtha" and "Arleen", as well as covers such as Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" and Bill Withers' "Use Me". In more news of the Dozen being enlisted by their peers, Modest Mouses Good News for People Who Like Bad News produced by indie legend Dennis Herring, will be released on Epic Records on 4/27/2004 featuring the Dirty Dozen Brass Band Horns on two tracks.

New Orleans' Mayor Morial Declares August 2 - The Dirty Dozen Day Just back from a brief European tour, The Dirty Dozen will spend the rest of the year touring the US in support of their new Mammoth Records release, Ears To The Wall. The tour kicks off in style - Mayor Marc H. Morial has declared August 2 The Dirty Dozen Day in New Orleans. The group will start the day with an appearance on Morning Show, on New Orleans' CBS affiliate WWL followed by an instore appearance at Tower Records and capped by a headlining date at the legendary Tipitina's club. The new CD is currently #3 on CMJ's Jazz chart. Members of The Dozen are also heard on the new Black Crowes record, Three Snakes And One Charm and their song, "My Feet Can't Fail Me Now" was recently featured in the Steve Martin movie, Sgt. Bilko.
