Allen Toussaint and Trombone Shorty will be featured participants in the nationally televised NBA All-Star game on TNT Sunday, February 17th. Trombone Shorty will perform during the player introductions along with Branford Marsalis, Kermit Ruffins and Rebirth Brass Band. Allen Toussaint will perform at half time as part of an all star lineup of keyboardists also featuring Harry Connick, Jr. and his band with Dr. John, Davell Crawford, Art Neville, Ivan Neville, Jonathan Batiste and Ellis Marsalis. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will perform throughout the television special on the preceding day which will include the 3-Point Challenge, Slam Dunk competition and skills challenge. The NBA All-Star Game begins at 8 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Pacific) at New Orleans Arena. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Allen Toussaint and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue are all touring throughout 2008. - see tour dates >> Holiday Concert Gift to New Orleans Matched With Honors For Trombone Shorty Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, along with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Shades of Praise Choir, headlined a free three-hour Christmas concert at the First Baptist Church of New Orleans for an over-capacity crowd of 1500+ people. Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu praised Trombone Shorty for his dedication to the community, and honored him with an award from the State of Louisiana. Senator Diana Bajoie of Louisiana awarded him with a state proclamation for his musical contributions, and Mayor Ray Nagin also attended the multi-cultural event, and presented Trombone Shorty with a proclamation from the City of New Orleans. City Council members were also in attendance, along with State Representative Juan LeFonte, who also awarded Trombone Shorty with a declaration from the State of Louisiana House. Politicians joined New Orleans families and churchgoers to hear this unique musical Christmas event organized by the New Orleans Music Hall of Fame featuring New Orleans's newest star, Trombone Shorty. And later in the week at the House of Blues in New Orleans, Lenny Kravitz sat in on drums with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Rosebud artists Bettye LaVette and Mavis Staples scored spots in the top 35 of Village Voice's annual "Pazz & Jop Poll" for LaVettes Scene Of The Crime and Staples We'll Never Turn Back. The annual poll combines ballots from 577 critics Top 10 lists to acknowledge the best albums of 2007. Additional Rosebud artists whose CDs were honored were Bill Frisell (for his work with Floratone and with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano) Loudon Wainwright III, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ruthie Foster, Pieta Brown, Ann Savoy and the late Muddy Waters. Rosebud artists Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet were honored at Offbeat Magazine's 2007 Best of the Beat Awards in New Orleans on January 12th. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue took home the award for Best R&B/Funk Band or Performer. Trombone Shorty took home his second consecutive award for Band or Performer of the Year. August 28, 2007: 'Trombone Shorty' toots New Orleans neighborhood's horn >> Trombone Shorty Scoring Major Media & Best Performance Award - Billboard, USA Today, Good Morning America, MSN, Village Voice features Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenues profile continues to rise with a number of recent major media features in just the past few weeks. Trombone Shorty, aka Troy Andrews, gave USA Today a tour of his Treme neighborhood for a feature story on Katrina's anniversary, with an added feature on his favorite haunts in the city. Andrews also appeared recently on Good Morning America as well as on an MSN Music special on post-Katrina New Orleans. He also scored a major feature this past week in the Village Voice. And Billboard Magazine's review of Goin Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino notes Whole Lotta Loving, featuring Andrews with Lenny Kravitz, Rebirth Brass Band and others as one of the project's funkiest tracks and declares Andrews as "one of New Orleans fastest rising players." A recent show in Tampa, Florida won the award for Best Musical Performance of the Year in Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay awards. Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino features Rosebud artists Allen Toussaint, Marcia Ball, Trombone Shorty and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. On this double-disc tribute, Allen Toussaint joins Paul McCartney on "I Want to Walk You Home and Marcia Ball pairs up with Irma Thomas for their own rendition of "I Just Can't Get New Orleans Off My Mind". Marcia also sings backing vocals with Dr John on Dont Leave Me This Way. Trombone Shorty also does double duty teaming up with the Rebirth Brass Band and Lenny Kravitz on "Whole Lotta Loving" and also joining with Ivan Nevilles Dumpstaphunk and B B King on Goin Home while The Dirty Dozen Brass Band is featured on "Every Night About This Time," along with Joss Stone and Buddy Guy. The album, set for a September 25 release, includes Domino hits such as "Blueberry Hill," "Im Walkin," and "Aint That a Shame. Other artists on the album include Willie Nelson, Elton John, Robert Plant, and Neil Young. Proceeds are to be donated to New Orleans Public Schools and fund the reconstruction of Dominos home, which was severely damaged from Hurricane Katrina.
