2011 GRAMMY Nominee David Lindley Special Featured Guest on Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: Songs From The Promise (Live) Streaming On VEVO and on The Promise CD Set
2011 GRAMMY Nominee David Lindley is a special featured guest on Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: Songs From "The Promise" (Live), streaming on VEVO online until January 1, 2011. The rare concert event was filmed before an audience of approximately 60 fans in Asbury Park, New Jersey's Carousel House in early December 2010. Bruce and the band played songs that had never been performed live from the new 2-CD set, The Promise, which features David Lindley on three songs ("The Brokenhearted," "It's A Shame," "Breakaway"). The CD set contains previously unreleased tracks from the 1976-78 Darkness on The Edge of Town sessions. David played violin during the original recording sessions and he reprises that role in this Asbury Park performance. Rolling Stone said of the performance of "The Promise," "It's one of [Bruce's] best songs... With Lindley on the violin, it was extremely powerful..." (Rolling Stone, Exclusive Review: Springsteen's Asbury Park Show) The L.A. Times wrote "["Blue Christmas"] includes a special treat for Lindley-philes with shots of him and his gray-white mutton chops emerging from under a red and white Santa hat." (LA Times: Bruce Springsteen performance of 'The Promise' songs streaming for the holidays)
Don Van Vliet, better known as Captain Beefheart, passed away today, December 17, in Northern California after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. As a musician, Beefheart was revered as truly one of a kind and he left his mark on rock music as a true innovator. He was an early agency client of The Rosebud Agency who represented him through his relationships with four different managers until he retired from touring in 1981, at which time he segued into his other career in art. Agency founder, Mike Kappus, produced his final recording, with Beefheart singing "Happy Earth Day" (to the tune of "Happy Birthday") over the phone to Kappus for a 2003 compilation recording for environmental organization, Earthjustice, entitled Where We Live. The concept for the recording sprang from Beefheart having sung Happy Birthday" to Kappus on his preceding birthday and the recording ended with the two of them laughing. Private until the end, there will be no services. Rest In Peace, Don.
