John Hammond, Charlie Musselwhite and Elvin Bishop are all featured in Sweet Blues, the new documentary about Paul Butterfield Blues Band guitarist Michael Bloomfield. The documentary, which filmmaker Bob Sarles spent twenty-five years working on, also features music legends such as Carlos Santana, B.B. King, Bob Weir, Bill Graham and Al Kooper. The film's Mill Valley Film Festival premiere on October 11, 2013 was commemorated by a tribute concert at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA where both Charlie and Elvin performed with world class musicians such as Jimmy Vivino (of Conan), Harvey Mandel, Nick Gravenites, Barry Goldberg, Maria Muldaur and Barry Melton. Of special note for us, Michael Bloomfield
was the first new artist signed to The Rosebud Agency. Founder, Mike Kappus, was already managing John Hiatt and booking Eddie Harris at the time but Bloomfield was the first new signing to Rosebud on Day One.

Pieta Brown's New Project, Love Over Gold, Receives Rave Reviews In Rolling Stone (Australia), Uncut and Rhythms Magazines

Pieta Brown's new duo project with Australian singer-songwriter Lucie Thorne, Love Over Gold, has received rave reviews from Rolling Stone (Australia), Rhythms (Australia) and Uncut (UK) magazines for their brand new release titled Fall to Rise. In its November 2013 issue, Rolling Stone gave the album four out of five stars and named the duo "a true musical connection..." stating, "it's an album which is as stark as it is beguiling, the vocal harmonies conjured up by the duo magical and haunting. In the realm of Florence Welch, this is a gem." Rhythms magazine stated in its September 2013 issue "what is surprising is how much their individual personalities still shine so strongly. Neither voice has been diluted and yet their combination takes them somewhere neither has been before. I'd say that's a sign of a triumphant alliance." Uncut's 7/10 review from its November 2013 Issue approves of the collaboration proclaiming, "There's a hint of Joni Mitchell in Thorne's voice... while the sultriness of Brown's delivery adds a languid air... Both voices combine beautifully..."

Having just finished a U.S. tour, Love Over Gold will continue on with dates in Australia starting in November.

ACL Fest 2013: The Blind Boys of Alabama

The Blind Boys of Alabama were featured on NPR's Morning Edition on October 2, 2013. On the program, original Blind Boys member Jimmy Carter was interviewed about the times their music has lived through, starting in the Jim Crow era and continuing through the civil rights movement to the release of their newest album, I'll Find A Way. The program also included an interview with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), the producer of I'll Find A Way, who stated "I've been kind of on a roll doing my own thing for a while, and I hadn't had that magical opportunity in life to sort of be tested by a great thing. Making a record with The Blind Boys of Alabama was that great thing for me, and I truly tried to step up to that plate."

Jimmy Carter was also recently featured on PBS's Tavis Smiley on October 9, 2013. Tavis' interview with Jimmy discusses the Blind Boys' new album and how their sound continues to help define decades-old gospel traditions.

The Blind Boys' performances during the Austin City Limits Festival included notable collaborations with Justin Vernon and 2013 Grammy-nominated Rosebud artist, Ruthie Foster, at Stubb's Amphitheater on October 9th. The group also recorded and released an exclusive music video for the festival on which they perform a stripped down version of "There Will Never Be Any Peace (Until God Is Seated At The Conference Table)" from I'll Find A Way. The video was premiered on Austin 360.

The Blind Boys were also recently featured on Daytrotter on October 3rd where they performed four tracks from their new album. This marks their second time on Daytrotter, having also been featured in March of 2010. Check out the new Daytrotter sessions here.

Trombone Shorty's "Fire And Brimstone" Music Video Premiers On Vevo, Feature On NPR's All Things Considered - And Behind The Scenes Interviews With Raphael Saadiq Online At Okayplayer's The Revivalist, Complex And BLURT

Trombone Shorty's music video for his new single from Say That To Say This, "Fire And Brimstone", premiered on Vevo's homepage on October 9, 2013. The video, directed by Brandan Bmike Odums, was filmed in New Orleans and features Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue performing the song in a colorful graffiti art setting.

Trombone Shorty was also featured on NPR's flagship program, All Things Considered, on October 10, 2013. The interview discusses Trombone Shorty's efforts to keep the New Orleans sound evolving not only through the music he's creating, but also by engaging the youth of New Orleans through his music education initiative, Trombone Shorty Foundation. NPR also goes on to describe his reuniting of The Meters on his new CD, Say That To Say This, as "a bit of a local miracle".

Three behind the scenes videos featuring interviews with Raphael Saadiq and Trombone Shorty from the Say That To Say This recording sessions have recently premiered via key outlets including Okayplayer's The Revivalist, Complex TV, Vevo, and BLURT, who described Trombone Shorty as a "national treasure." The videos discuss how Saadiq and Trombone Shorty's relationship came about and their roles as co-producers during the creation of the new album.

Say That To Say This was recently named an All Music Editors' Choice for the month of September. In addition to a near 5 star review given by All Music, the album's artwork was also featured prominently on their homepage (and still is as of this writing). All Music described the album as "much more disciplined, as revealed by this collection of groove-conscious soul and modern NOLA funk..." and goes on to say, "Ultimately, with all of its confidence, production polish, and sophistication, this is the album that should break Trombone Shorty to a much wider, more diverse audience."
