Rosebud Artists Featured In Radio City "Salute To The Blues" Concert Rosebud artists Robert Cray, Mavis Staples, Ruth Brown and John Hammond join Bonnie Raitt, B. B. King, Aerosmith and many more in a "Salute to the Blues" concert February 7 at Radio City Music Hall. The concert will be filmed for theatrical distribution, and will be directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and executive produced by Martin Scorsese. Segments of the concert will also be a part of Martin Scorseses "The Blues", a seven-part series of personal and impressionistic films viewed through the lens of seven world-famous directors who share a passion for blues music. "The Blues" airs nationally on PBS in Fall 2003. Bettye Lavette Signs To The Rosebud Agency Bettye Lavette has just signed to The Rosebud Agency for exclusive booking representation. Handy Blues Award Nominations - Charlie Musselwhite, Marcia Ball, John Hammond and Duke Robillard named Rosebud artists once again made an impressive showing in the 2003 W. C. Handy Blues Award nominations. Charlie Musselwhite scored four nominations for this year's awards as his latest CD, One Night In America, was picked in nominations for Blues Album of the Year and Contemporary Blues Album of the Year. Charlie was also acknowledged with nominations for Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year and his perennial nomination for Blues Instrumentalist - Harmonica. Marcia Ball, last years most nominated artist and 2002 winner for Blues Album of the year, had no new CD this year but she is nominated for Contemporary Blues - Female Artist of the Year as well as Blues Instrumentalist - Keyboards. John Hammond is once again nominated for Acoustic Blues Artist of the Year - the category he won again last year. And guitar virtuoso, Duke Robillard is nominated once again for Blues Instrumentalist - Guitar. Duke won this award in 2000 and 2001 and was nominated last year as well. In addition to the above, Otis Taylor, who joins Rosebud artists John Hammond and Charlie Musselwhite (as well as Eric Bibb) on this year's W.C. Handy All Stars tour, snagged nominations for Contemporary Blues Album of the Year and Acoustic Blues Artist of the Year. The W.C. Handy award ceremonies will take place in Memphis on May 22, 2003. Rosebud's, Mike Kappus, Named Manager / Agent Of the Year By Blues Foundation For Unprecedented Fourth Time Rosebud founder, Mike Kappus, has just been named Manager / Agent of the year by the Blues Foundation. The Blues Foundation honors recipients in various categories with a Keeping The Blues Alive (KBA) award to be presented on February 2 in Memphis, TN. Kappus is the only repeat winner of the award, this being the fourth time he has been honored by the foundation in this category since 1986. Kappus has been recognized for his work with many of the most important names in the genre from the late Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, Charles Brown, Luther Allison, Michael Bloomfield, and Albert Collins to current Rosebud blues artists Robert Cray, Duke Robillard, John Hammond, Charlie Musselwhite, Marcia Ball and Ruth Brown. Rubén Blades Mundo CD has been nominated as Best World Music Album. The Blind Boys of Alabama follow their Grammy win for Spirit of the Century with a nomination for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album for this years Higher Ground. Charlie Musselwhites One Night In America is nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Charlie also contributes a track to Preachin' The Blues: The Music Of Mississippi Fred McDowell which is nominated in the Best Traditional Blues album category. Fiddlers 4 (Bruce Molsky, Michael Doucet, Darol Anger & Rushad Eggleston) are nominated in the category of Best Traditional Folk Album for their debut eponymous CD. Also nominated in the same category is Evangeline Made produced by Ann Savoy of the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band. Ann performs a track on the CD with Linda Ronstadt as well as one with Savoy Doucet backed by a rhythm section featuring Sonny Landreth on guitar. National League Manager of the Year Drafts Robert Cray National League Manager of the Year, Tony La Russa of the St. Louis Cardinals will feature The Robert Cray Band at his annual fundraiser for his Animal Rescue Foundation January 11 in Walnut Creek, CA. Cray joins a lineup including Chicago and past performers including John Fogerty, Chris Isaak and others in supporting the cause which matches pets with people.
