Ruth Brown Featured in Rolling Stone, Jet Magazine and Hollywood Reporter Ruth Brown is pictured with Etta James and Little Richard in the current (December 9) issue of Rolling Stone in a random notes piece about her Blues Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award. She's also featured in two separate items with pictures in Jet Magazine as well as a full page rave in the October 21 Hollywood Reporter, and yet another pic from the event in the current Hits magazine. Duke Robillard/Herb Ellis CD Just Out on Stony Plain Records The new Duke Robillard CD Conversations in Swing Guitar with Herb Ellis was just released on Stony Plain Records November 16. Watch for Duke to be back in the studio soon with some very special projects as a producer. David Lindley in Holiday Shows With Jackson Browne David Lindley will briefly relive his long time stint as feature guitarist with Jackson Browne during special holiday shows December 28 and 29 in Las Vegas and New Years Eve in Los Angeles. David will join Jackson as he supports the Eagles on all of these dates.. The Robert Cray Band's Heavy Picks album due out November 16, BBC Radio 2 Special with Memphis Horns, Robert On new Clapton CD The Robert Cray Band's, Heavy Picks, The Robert Cray Band Collection, is due November 16 from Universal Records. The CD is a compilation of Robert's best known songs from "Too Many Cooks" off his debut album, Who's Been Talkin, through his cover of Otis Redding's "Trick Or Treat" from 1997's Sweet Potato Pie. Robert is also featured on a BBC2 Radio special honoring The Memphis Horns set to air in England November 13. Cray's single "24-7 Man" has just followed "Pardon" into regular airplay on BBC Radio 2. Both songs are from the band's new Take Your Shoes Off CD. Cray can also be heard on Eric Clapton's new CD, The Clapton Chronicles, on the track "Before You Accuse Me". The song is taken from Clapton's Journeyman album on which Robert played on four tracks including the song "Old Love," which he and Eric co-wrote. Loudon Wainwright III in Rolling Stone's Fathers and Sons Feature, Loudon added to NYC Rainforest Alliance Benefit Nov. 29, Mountain Stage coming soon Loudon Wainwright III and son Rufus Wainwright are featured in a two page cover-mentioned spread in the November 11 Rolling Stone. The article also features the Cooders, Allmans and Costellos. Loudon will also join with Robert Cray, Levon Helm, James Taylor, Shawn Colvin and Angelique Kidjo in an all-star benefit November 29 at New York City's Beacon Theater. In the meantime, Loudon can be heard on the nationally syndicated Mountain Stage program around November 19. (date and time vary by market). John Lee Hooker Biography Released in England The John Lee Hooker biography, "Boogie Man: John Lee Hooker In The American 20th Century," penned by noted author Charles Shaar Murray, was released October 15 in England. The first biography of the legendary bluesman, "Boogie Man", was serialized upon release in London's Daily Telegraph and featured in a seven page spread in Mojo Magazine's November issue. Watch for release in other parts of the world in early 2000. |
