JJ Cale has set tour dates for the first time in over five years. The new dates are solo performances but watch for special guests to show up on a regular basis. More dates are being added regularly so watch for Cale to cover much of the US before the summer is over.

Marcia Ball's Handy nominations include nods for Blues Entertainer of the Year, Contemporary Blues-Female Artist of the Year, and Blues Instrumentalist - Keyboards as well as Contemporary Blues Album of the Year and Blues Album of the Year for her Presumed Innocent CD.

John Hammond, whose Tom Waits produced Wicked Grin CD has been collecting accolades all year, hauls in three nominations including Contemporary Blues Album of the Year, Blues Album of the Year, and Acoustic Blues Artist of the Year.

Duke Robillard who was named #1 Blues Guitarist in 2000 and 2001 returns once again as a nominee in the same category in 2002. Charlie Musselwhite, already a ten time W. C. Handy Award winner, brings in yet another nomination for Blues Instrumentalist - Harmonica. Charlie's song, "Charlie's Old Highway 51 Blues", also got a nod for Blues Song of the Year.

Rosebud Artist, the late Muddy Waters, was also honored in the Historical Blues Album of the Year category for his Fathers and Sons album.


The Blind Boys of Alabama Triumphs Continue To Pour In - NAACP Image Award Nomination, Grammy Nomination, Featured Collaborations, More Top 10 placings and Award Nominations

The Blind Boys of Alabama featuring Clarence Fountain continue to gain impressive fans, in particular for their Spirit of The Century CD. The group has just been nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Gospel Artist - Traditional - this on the heels of their Grammy nomination. Year End Top 10 placements continue to pour in including topping the list at the Washington Post as well as being #1 Customer's Pick for gospel on Amazon.com and being named named an album of the Year by Wanderlust magazine(UK). Other award nominations include: the Virgin Shortlist Prize for Artistic Achievement, Best of 2001 Editor's Pick on Amazon.com, and BBC3 Awards (UK). Watch for some very special collaborations to be released in 2002 including projects with Lou Reed - on his upcoming album, Poetry, with Ibrahim Ferrer - on his upcoming album produced by Ry Cooder, as well as on Peter Gabriel's upcoming album and a track with Robert Plant for a movie soundtrack! Watch for a feature segment on Loudon and Leonard Cohen later this month on CBS News Sunday Morning. Conan O'Brien will also re-run their show with Loudon as guest on February 25. And on March 3 Bravo will air Broadway's Best with Loudon featured performing two songs amidst an all star cast.

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band's Medicated Magic CD is due out on Ropeadope Records on April 23. The CD features guest artists Dr. John, Widespread Panic, Olu Dara, Robert Randolph, Nora Jones, and DJ Logic. The project was produced by Craig Street who has worked with Lucinda Williams, Cassandra Wilson, Madonna, Joe Henry and more. Watch for The Dozen on tour in the meantime.

The Robert Cray Band's "No One Special" video is one of only two music videos to be featured at the upcoming Moondance Film Festival, January 25-27, 2002 in Boulder, CO. Produced and directed by Susan Turner Cray, the video has seen significant play in the US and overseas. The song, "No One Special" is featured on the latest Robert Cray Band CD, Shoulda Been Home.

BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet have been nominated in the Traditional Folk category for their Looking Back Tomorrow: BeauSoleil Live! CD. This is the group's 9th nomination; their L'Amour Ou La Folie CD won the Grammy for Traditional Folk in 1998.
