JJ Cale recently completed his first tour in five years in support of his acclaimed new album, Roll On. He was joined on stage by Tom Petty and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell in Santa Monica, CA and Mike returned to play the entire show in Seattle. At each stop on the tour, a portion of the proceeds were donated to a local animal charity or rescue effort. JJ Cale Joined Onstage By Tom Petty & Mike Campbell On First Stop of Rare Tour JJ Cale just kicked off his first solo tour in five years, supporting his acclaimed new album, Roll On. The tour began with two shows at McCabe’s in Los Angeles, on March 27 and 28. On the second evening, fans were treated to a surprise appearance by Tom Petty as well as Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, who both sat in with Cale for the second half of his set. A portion of the proceeds from each show on the tour will be donated to local animal shelters and rescue efforts. Cale’s backing band on this tour includes Bill Raffensperger (bass), Walt Richmond (keys), David Teegarden (drums/percussion) and James Cruce (drums/percussion). All but Cruce recorded with Cale on Roll On and all but Raffensperger played on The Road To Escondido, the Grammy winning Gold record collaboration by JJ Cale and Eric Clapton. Roll On has earned JJ Cale his best initial sales and highest debut on the Billboard Top 200 in at least the past 25 years. "After Midnight" by JJ Cale nominated for Official State of Oklahoma Rock Song JJ Cale's "After Midnight" is among ten finalists for the Official State of Oklahoma Rock Song. Also in the running are songs by Elvis Presley, Three Dog Night, Leon Russell, Flaming Lips and The Ventures, among others. All of the songs nominated were written or performed by Oklahomans. Voting is taking place until November 15th at: oklahomarocksong.org >> The winning song will be announced during the next session of the Oklahoma Legislature, who passed a Resolution to decide upon the Official Rock Song.
JJ Cale Honored With First Grammy Win For The Road To Escondido With Eric Clapton JJ Cale and Eric Clapton won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album for The Road to Escondido at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. In spite of a long history of influential recordings, this is Cales first Grammy Award. Cale's songs, most notably "After Midnight" and "Cocaine" among many others, have driven sales for major recording artists for decades but this was also JJ Cales first certified Gold record, selling over 500,000 copies in the U.S. alone and achieving Gold and Platinum status in a number of other countries around the world. Cale wrote 11 of the 14 songs and co-produced the 2006 hit album with Eric Clapton.
