Luther Allison honored in Chicago and San Francisco Tribute Events Recent tribute events honored Luther Allison's memory and helped raise funds to pay his medical bills. An event at Chicago's House of Blues on September 9 featured Jonny Lang, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Dawkins, Otis Rush, Syl Johnson, Mighty Joe Young and The Lonnie Brooks Band among others. The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco was the scene of a tribute on October 13 featuring Blues Legend John Lee Hooker, Luther Allison co-writer and bandleader, James Solberg as well as Joe Louis Walker, Coco Montoya, Sista Monica, Mitch Woods, Little Feat's Richie Hayward and Brian Leighton. Charles Brown presented with NEA award by Hillary Clinton Charles Brown was awarded the prestigious Arts Heritage Fellowship Award by Hillary Clinton on September 23 in Washington, DC. Charles is a previous winner of the Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award and recipient of numerous Grammy nominations and W.C. Handy Awards. Charles continues to tour regularly worldwide. Rosebud signs Charles Brown, new Releases from Rosebud artists The Blind Boys Of Alabama and Loudon Wainwright III The Rosebud Agency is proud to announce that we now represent legendary blues artist Charles Brown for exclusive worldwide bookings. Charles will celebrate his 75th Birthday this Fall with a Tribute from the San Francisco Jazz Festival as well as a National Endowment For The Arts Heritage Fellowship Award presented by President Clinton. Loudon Wainwright III has just released Little Ship in Europe. He is touring the UK and select Europe dates in support of the CD. Little Ship will be released by Virgin in the US, Canada and "Down Under" in early 1998 with extensive touring to follow. The Blind Boys of Alabama have also just released a new CD, Holdin' On, on the House of Blues label and are touring continuously. John Lee Hooker adds more movie credits John Lee Hooker's "Dimples" not only appears in G.I. Jane but in the new release, Kiss The Girls, as well. Kiss The Girls also features Hooker's "I Want To Hug You". John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room San Francisco became home to a genuine down-home blues joint with the opening of John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room, on October 3, 1997. Host and proprietor Alex Andreas and John Lee Hooker welcome lovers of Blues & R&B to the renovated club at Fillmore and Geary in San Francisco, directly across from the legendary Fillmore. Formerly known as Jack's, the club had always been Hooker's favorite hangout in San Francisco. Now he has his own custom booth, his name out front and free reign over the classic club. |
