The Bad Plus Score Year End Honors, Prep New Release

The Bad Plus' major label debut, These Are the Vistas, was named one of the top 50 CDs of the year by Rolling Stone. The CD was also named #1 Jazz CD of the year by CMJ and scored in the top 10 of a number of other major magazines. They will release a powerful follow up CD entitled, Give, on March 9. Rosebud Agency Artists Score Grammy Nominations in Pop, Blues and Gospel Categories

Once again this year, Rosebud artists have been nominated for Grammys in a variety of categories. The Blind Boys of Alabama follow their back-to-back Grammy wins with a third consecutive nomination for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album for this year’s "Go Tell It On The Mountain". Marcia Ball's "So Many Rivers" is nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Mavis Staples has been nominated for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals for her duet with Bob Dylan entitled "Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking". The song appears on the album "Gotta Serve Somebody: The Gospel Songs of Bob Dylan" which was also nominated for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album.

Also, Jay McShann's "Going To Kansas City" (featuring Rosebud artist and previous McShann producer, Duke Robillard, on guitar) was nominated for Best Traditional Blues Album. Deceased long-time Rosebud Agency artists Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and Willie Dixon are featured in "The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1966, Volume 1" which was nominated for Best Long Form Music Video. Also nominated in this same category is Muddy Waters who is, of course, the focus of "Muddy Waters, Can't Be Satisfied". A number of artists featured on the Earthjustice benefit CD "Where We Live - Stand For What You Stand On" compiled by Rosebud founder, Mike Kappus, were also among the nominees. Earthjustice contributors Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits, Willie Nelson, Norah Jones, and Bob Dylan were all nominated in a variety of categories. The Grammys will be awarded February 8 in Los Angeles.

Loudon Wainwright III appears on the nationally syndicated radio program Acoustic Café the week of December 1, which can also be accessed online for a period of 8-10 weeks. The radio program is an international showcase for new acoustic music featuring some of the best singer-songwriters in the business each week. Loudon Wainwright III is an actor, acclaimed singer-songwriter, and one of the most frequent guests on Acoustic Café. His latest live CD is entitled "So Damn Happy" and he appears in an acting role in the Tim Burton film, "Big Fish", coming to theatres soon.

Duke Robillard Honored With The Blues Foundation's "Keeping The Blues Alive" Award

Duke Robillard has been honored with The Blues Foundation's 2004 Keeping The Blues Alive (KBA) Award as Best Producer. The award will be presented on Saturday, January 31, 2004 in Memphis Tennessee. The KBA Awards are given each year to individuals and organizations that have contributed greatly to the growth and vitality of blues music. Duke has received the W.C. Handy Award for Best Blues guitarist three of the past four years. The KBA award this year recognizes Duke for his impact as a producer for his work with artists such as Jay McShann, Jimmy Witherspoon, Billy Boy Arnold, Debbie Davies, and Toni Lynn Washington among others. All of this is in addition to his own active touring schedule and the release of "Exalted Lover" in September.
