The very first authorized John Lee Hooker biography, Boogie Man: The Adventures of John Lee Hooker in the American Twentieth Century was serialized in the Daily Telegraph and will be available in full book form in the UK October 28. An excerpt will also be featured in the November issue of Mojo Magazine.


John Hammond joins Tom Waits for New York finale

John Hammond joined Tom Waits onstage for the last of Waits' four nights of performances at the Beacon Theater in New York. Hammond sat in on guitar and harmonica for a total of four songs. Old friends and mutual admirers, Waits had written the song, "No One Can Forgive Me But My Baby," for Hammond's 1992 album, Got Love If You Want It.


John Lee Hooker closes the 1999 San Francisco Blues Festival with surprise performances by Carlos Santana and Pinetop Perkins

Riding high with his current hit record, Carlos Santana joined John Lee Hooker as he closed the San Francisco Blues Festival with his signature Boogie. Santana had come empty handed but was given John Lee's guitar - the same guitar originally given to Hooker years earlier by Santana himself. Also joining Hooker for the finale was Muddy Waters alumnus and old friend, Pinetop Perkins, on piano.


The Blind Boys of Alabama Add More Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Dates

Tom Petty added The Blind Boys of Alabama featuring Clarence Fountain to another 19 dates on his current tour (marking a total of 30 dates for The Blind Boys on the tour). The Blind Boys finale with Petty will be an appearance at The Hollywood Bowl on October 16.


Charlie Musselwhite rejoins Cuba's Eliades Ochoa on-stage

Charlie Musselwhite reunited with friends and collaborators Eliades Ochoa (of Buena Vista Social Club fame) and his band Cuarteto Patria on their debut tour of America with Charlie opening each show before joining the band each night. Eliades and Cuarteto Patria contributed to Charlie's most recent cd,Continental Drifter. Ochoa and Musselwhite intend to collaborate again next year on a tour of fine arts venues entitled "Continental Drift."
