Rosebud Founder, Mike Kappus, Recognized As Humanitarian At Celebrate A Legend Event Rosebud founder, Mike Kappus, was recognized with an award as a humanitarian by Congresswoman Barbara Lee at the Celebrate A Legend event on April 11, 2003. Other award winners honored at the event included long time Rosebud client, the late John Lee Hooker, Fantasy Records owner Saul Zaentz, jazz legend, Jimmy McGriff, blues great Gatemouth Brown, blues artist and author of the B.B. King hit, The Thrill Is Gone Jimmy McCracklin, lap steel virtuoso, Sonny Rhodes, Zydeco royalty, Queen Ida, and New Orleans Legend, Eddie Bo, among others. Unlike the W.C. Handy Blues Awards, a popular award voted on by thousands of members of The Blues Foundation and subscribers to specified magazines, the KBAs are awarded to non-performers strictly on the basis of merit by a select panel of Blues professionals. Mike Kappus was honored with the KBA Award in the "Manager / Agent" category in 1986, 1987, 1990 and 2003. No other individual has won this award more than once. WISCONSIN AREA MUSIC AWARDS - PRESIDENT'S AWARD 2002 Rosebud Founder, Mike Kappus, Honored At Wisconsin Music Awards Rosebud founder, Mike Kappus, was honored with the Presidents award at the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Awards (WAMIs). The awards took place on April 29, 2002 at the Northern Lights Theatre in Milwaukee. Kappus is a native of Eau Claire, WI and lived in Milwaukee from 1971 to 1976 working simultaneously as an agent, manager, and talent buyer for, among others, Teddys, the citys first showcase club for national talent with a focus on jazz and blues. Kappus moved to San Francisco in 1976 and, started the Rosebud Agency just a few months later. Also honored with the award was Milwaukees renowned Summerfest, now in their 35th year. Mike Kappus Named 2001 Blues Music Association A.G.E.S. Award Honoree The Blues Music Association named Mike Kappus as the second recipient of their annual A.G.E.S. Award. The first honoree in 2000 was Tom Mazzolini, promoter of the longest running blues festival in the US - the San Francisco Blues Festival. Honoree for the year 2002 was the legendary B.B. King. Kappus founded The Rosebud Agency in 1976 and has represented blues legends Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Robert Cray, John Hammond, Charlie Musselwhite, Luther Allison, Duke Robillard, Marcia Ball, Bettye LaVette, Ruth Brown, Michael Bloomfield, Charles Brown and many more over the years.
