Booker T. is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Lifetime Grammy Achievement Award winner, and arguably the most famous Hammond B3 player in rock/soul history. The late, great Isaac Hayes said it best - "Booker T. pioneered the organ. When you heard him play, you knew it couldn't be anyone else." As the renowned leader of the legendary Booker T. & The MG's ("Green Onions" "Time Is Tight" etc.), this pillar of soul music backed Stax stars Otis Redding and Albert King, among many others and in recent years has collaborated with Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, CSN&Y, Stevie Wonder and many more. This year with backing from Drive-By Truckers and guitar contributions from Neil Young, Booker T. opened a new chapter in his fifty year musical career with the release of his searing new album Potato Hole (2009, Anti Records). The San Francisco Chronicle says "Booker T. brilliantly updates the Memphis R&B instrumental sound that made him famous…the material could be vintage Booker, but the execution is entirely fresh and organic - timeless." |
