The Blind Boys of Alabama will release their new CD, Duets, on October 27, 2009. This special project features tracks that the Five-Time Grammy winners have recorded with high profile admirers Lou Reed, Bonnie Raitt, Ben Harper, Susan Tedeschi, Randy Travis, Solomon Burke, Marva Wright, Jars of Clay, Timothy B. Schmit (The Eagles), Asleep At The Wheel, Dan Zanes and Toots Hibbert (Toots & The Maytals) as well as with fellow Rosebud artists, Charlie Musselwhite and John Hammond. Of the 14 tracks on the compilation, four are from Grammy winning albums, three are from Grammy nominated discs and three songs have never before been released. Marcia Ball & Charlie Musselwhite Winners Again in 2009 Living Blues Awards

Marcia Ball and Charlie Musselwhite were recently honored with two 2009 Living Blues Awards each. Marcia won Blues Artist of the Year (Female) and Most Outstanding Musician (Keyboard) in the Readers' Poll. Charlie was awarded Most Outstanding Musician (Harmonica) in both the Readers' Poll and the Critics'Poll. This is the third year in a row both Marcia and Charlie have been awarded Most Outstanding Musician in the Readers' Poll. Congratulations Marcia and Charlie!

The Blues Tonight have been chosen as the Best Blues Albums Of 2009 (so far) by  Of the ten CDs selected, Charlie's is listed #1, while Duke's is #3.  Charlie has recently been nominated for the upcoming Living Blues Awards as Most Outstanding Musician - Harmonica, a category he has won the past two years.  In addition to media acclaim for Duke's Stomp! The Blues Tonight, he has just released an instructional DVD, Guitar Method Volume 1, a master class in playing blues guitar, which includes lessons for choosing chord voicings, experimenting with boogie and other rhythms, using a variety of picking techniques, his favorite turnarounds for playing the blues, demonstrating sliding sixth chords, tips on playing rhythm guitar to back a blues solo and more.

Charlie Musselwhite Honored With Blues Trail Marker

Legendary blues harp master Charlie Musselwhite will be honored with a Mississippi Blues Trail Marker, to be unveiled in a ceremony on April 24, 2009. The Marker will be placed in Charlie's home town of Kosciusko, MS. Charlie's impressive credentials include collaborations with Eddie Vedder, Tom Waits, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Gov’t Mule, INXS, Mickey Hart, George Thorogood and a long and close personal relationship with his real-life best man at his wedding, John Lee Hooker.

Created by the Mississippi Blues Commission, the Blues Trail is composed of historical markers and interpretive sites located throughout the state. Artists honored with markers to date include fellow legends B.B. King, Bo Diddley, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Mississippi John Hurt, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson and Willie Dixon.

Charlie will continue to tour extensively throughout the year including stops in Italy and Romania in May and Australia in the Fall. Please see tour dates>>

Rosebud Artists Score Living Blues Awards

Congratulations to several Rosebud artists who were honored in the Living Blues Readers and Critics Polls. The Critic’s Poll named Bettye LaVette both Blues Artist of the Year (Female) and Most Outstanding Blues Singer. In the Reader’s Poll awards, Marcia Ball was named Most Outstanding Musician (Keyboard) and Charlie Musselwhite took Most Outstanding Musician (Harmonica). The late John Lee Hooker, a Rosebud artist for 25 years, was honored for Shout! Factory’s Hooker box set, which was named Best Blues Album of 2006 (Historical Recording) in the Reader’s Poll and Best Historical Reissue / Post-war in the Critic’s Poll.

Rosebud Artists Score In Downbeat Critics Poll

Bill Frisell was named Best Guitarist for the fourth year in a row (and seventh in 10 years) in Downbeat's Critics Poll. Several frequent Frisell collaborators were also honored: Sam Yahel was on top in the Rising Star Organ category and Jenny Scheinman was named #1 Rising Star Violin, while producer (and Frisell manager) Lee Townsend, drummers Brian Blade and Joey Baron, and violinist Eyvind Kang were among the honorees in their respective categories.

Bettye LaVette and Charlie Musselwhite both placed in the top 10 for Blues Artist/Group, and Tommy Castro was among the Rising Star Blues Artist/Group honorees. The Blues Album category included JJ Cale & Eric Clapton’s "The Road To Escondido" as well as Musselwhite’s "Delta Hardware". Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint’s "The River In Reverse" and Richard Thompson’s "The Life And Music Of Richard Thompson" were honored in the Beyond Album category.
